SCIENCE ADVENTURE - MAKING IT GO & ENERGY WORKS

Science Adventures is a US-based, nationally-accredited science education program with over 35 years of experience. Children will be introduced to the wonders of science in an interactive and highly imaginative environment. 

The two-week summer program will cover two topics:

Making it Go

It’s a topic of ups, downs, loopy loops and going round and round. The children learn about how things move in different ways. They use air to power their wind racer then learn about potential and kinetic energy by making a simple gadget and discover how balance keeps things in place, along with other things that just keep going and going!

Energy Works

Focusing on themselves, students review different kinds of energy and how it’s converted in a system: energy their bodies produce, potential and kinetic energy, the motion of waves, plus alternative forms of energy. They engineer a wind turbine, then a solar device.  Energy Works allows students to gain experience with different kinds of energy and see how energy is converted to different forms within a system.

AFRICIAN DRUMS 

Djembe is a specially–shaped drum from West Africa which has a distinctive melodies. Djembe playing typically involves a team of drummers therefor emphasizes teamwork. Students will learn the basic technique to how to play the drums, how to create the 3 basic different sounds that you can produce from the drum and will also learn some basic rhythms.

During classes students will also take part in a traditional drum class-circle, which has been used for centuries as a way to create a sense of community and strengthen interpersonal bonds. They will also learn some simple African songs.

BADMINTON CLUB

Welcome to our badminton club - the perfect place for anyone who loves this fast-paced sport! From shot types like slicing, hitting, and pushing to grips like the forehand and backhand, we'll cover all the essentials of badminton technique. CREATIVE CRAFTERS: EXPLORING ARTISTIC ADVENTURES 

This program offers an engaging and enriching summer experience for grade 2-3 students, providing them with the opportunity to unleash their creativity, develop fine motor skills, and explore various art and craft techniques. Through a combination of painting, drawing, collage, sculpting, and craft projects, students will have the chance to express themselves, gain confidence in their artistic abilities, and take pride in their unique creations.

STOP MOTION MOVIE

Stop motion movie-making provides children with a great blend of storytelling and technology use. Stop motion is a filming technique where pictures are taken as objects are moved in small increments. When the pictures are put together, it makes the objects appear to be moving. To make these movies, a free app called Stop Motion Studio will be used.

CARD GAME MANIA

The Arts in STEAM program offers students engaging hands-on activities that foster creativity, problem-solving skills, and connections across disciplines while ensuring an enjoyable learning experience. Students participate in exciting projects like creating Water Science, Tunnel Book, and Melting Crayon Art, Garden Terrariums etc. They have the opportunity to design and construct artistic structures using engineering concepts, leverage technology to create artwork, and explore the convergence of science and visual arts through experiments and visual representations. This interdisciplinary approach seamlessly incorporates artistic principles and practices into traditional STEAM subjects, enabling students to explore and express their ideas through diverse art forms.

VIDEO CREATOR: MAKE A GAMING VIDEO

Want your child to gain creative skills with video games? Video making is one of the most creative ways to use technology, but children rarely know how to make them, which means they miss out on a fun way to explore their interests. In this camp, students will be introduced to the exciting world of video creation by creating a gaming video. This Summer, they will:

• Learn to use video editing, voice over, and screen capture apps

• Make original videos about their favorite video games (ex. Roblox, Minecraft, Among Us)

• Feel inspired to be creative while gaming

• Work with teachers who have professional experience in video creation

The children are going to take a very exciting journey together as they complete with all the necessary tools for them to be a successful Science Detectives. Not only have all of the tools needed to be good detectives, but also know all of the science that makes these tools work. Once the children have learnt all the techniques, they will be able to unlock the secrets of science. For a properly trained Science Detective, there is no mystery too complicated to solve.
